disappointment

I no longer prolong my disappointments.
I turn them into gratitude — not the soft kind, but the kind forged through hardship.
Every mistake teaches me.
Misfortune sharpens me.
Tragedy reminds me that I am still here, still thinking, still standing.

I bow my head out of respect, never to surrender.
Life has tested me too many times for me to break easily.

But gratitude is not weakness.
If I am treated fairly, I answer with fairness.
If I am pushed, I stand my ground.
If I am bullied, I answer with force enough to end it.
I have lived long enough to stop shaping myself around the comfort of others.

And when the dust settles after the fight, I am grateful for that too —
because there is no dust to settle where there has been no struggle.
Strength is never discovered without resistance.
Wisdom is never earned without hardship.
There is no glory without challenge, and even enemies have their purpose in revealing who we are.

At 75, I value life deeply: my own, and the lives of those I love and those I call friends. I reserve my heart for those who walk beside me, not against me.
Time has taught me where to place my loyalty, my energy, and my heart.

The journey continues to unfold so I walk forward with clear eyes, gentle yet firm hands, and a heart that refuses to grow bitter.
